What happens when I turn on the light switch? Part 2 · Nov 26 by Kurt Peterson

In an effort to think beyond my earlier post about “clean coal” and what it means for America, I’m presenting two opportunities to readers of this blog. If you’ve considered what I’ve said about mountaintop removal and begun to think more critically about the impact of flipping on that light switch, then I encourage you to visit two websites:

1) Clean Energy Virginia is the bulletin board for everything pertaining to the new coal-fired power plant slated to be built in Wise County, VA—not far upwind from the Mount Rogers High Country—one of Virginia’s wilderness gems. You can sign the “mile-long petition” at any of our Virginia stores or online that will be sent to Dominion executives at a Dominion shareholder’s meeting in 2008. Also when visiting the site, please send your comments to the State Corporation Commission about the proposed Wise County Power Plant.

Smarter, cleaner, brighter energy use in Virginia--and America.

2) Kilowatt Ours is a website based on Jeff Barrie’s award-winning film devoted to promoting energy efficiency. Here you can find tips on how to reduce your electric bill by up to $600 a month, find energy saving products, and hear success stories of others who have applied his tips. And if you get an opportunity, get the DVD, and watch it. It may just change the way you think about energy.
