Mar 26, 2010 - Mar 28, 2010
SHACKELFORD ISLAND - Full Moon
We are going a little later for this Spring trip to allow for warmer temperatures and the full moon. This trip is a favorite for all who attend. You can expect the usual great birding, shelling, dayhiking and group dynamics. Camp will be at the remote eastern tip of the island. After a boat ride from the mainland, we drop off in the water with 300 yards to shore through cold nut crystal clear water. We then hike another 400 yards to secluded campsites. This trip will fill quickly, so be warned! You should plan on a 7 hour drive ~ in the fall of 2009 most of the group went down the night before our scheduled boat departure.

DOLLY SODS, WVA - focus on Beginning Backpacker
This is the first of three trips that will be offered in the Dolly Sods. The focus for this trip is to offer a very easy early spring trip for the beginning backpacker who wants a hands on learning experience, or for those who just want a nature oriented trip at a slower pace and fewer miles. We will go about 1 mile in on a trail before doing a short cross country route along meadowed streambanks to our campsite. The different return route will also have an short off trail component. This is a relatively easy adventure in spring focusing on birds and early wildflowers .

DOLLY SODS, WVA - Star Gazing
Our third trip is a full circuit of the high plains in Dolly Sods North. We will hike to a dry ridgetop campsite offering endless views. This is our reward for hauling water at the end of the day. Plan on a **Star** trip done during the new moon. Successful star gazers will receive rewards from Blue Ridge (BRMS) for finding constellations. We will also provide 'star finders' to assist you with finding constellations. You can expect 3 miles each day, with minimal elevation change. This trip is suitable for beginning backpackers and kids.

Signatures: Canvas of Snow (16 minutes)
USA, 2009, Focus: Skiing, snowboarding and noboarding
In Japan there is a cultural connection to the different signatures of terrestrial home – a sense that the rhythm of fall, winter, spring and summer influences the rhythm of the person, their energy, their riding style and the lines they choose. This special edit features skiers, snowboarders, a photographer and a noboarder who are each in tune with this connection to winter and the environment they ride in.
Shining Spirit (26 minutes)
Canada, 2009, Focus: Culture, human story
Filmed in Canada, India and Tibet, “Shining Spirit” documents a recording project that brings together the family of Jamyang Yeshi through music and multi-track recording technology. With the help of Western friends, Jamyang, in exile in Canada, and his brother Tsundue, in exile in the U.S., join voices with the family they left behind in Tibet. For the first time in over a decade, they sign together once again. The film is a testament to the power of music, the resilience of the Tibetan culture, and the enduring bonding of a family separated by politics and geography.

The coolest human-powered adrenaline tool ever invented – the mountain bike? “revolve” blasts in cinematic glory from the French Alps to the lush coast of B.C., incorporating dirt jump, trail, freeride, slopestyle and downhill.

Mustang – Journey of Transformation (28 minutes)
USA, 2009, Focus: Tibetan culture, family friendly
Lost in time, the Himalayan kingdom of Mustang is one of the oldest sanctuaries of authentic Tibetan Buddhist culture. However, long isolated by geography and politics, the people struggle to survive, and the centre of their culture—the 15th century monasteries and the art within—is dangerously close to collapse. Narrated by Richard Gere and featuring the Dalai Lama, the film tells the compelling story of the efforts to rescue this ancient place from the brink of extinction and to help spark a cultural renaissance.
Take a Seat (46 minutes)
Special Jury Mention
UK, 2009, Focus: Human story, adventure, biking
Dominic Gill’s mission is to cycle the 32,000 kilometres from the northern coast of Alaska to the southern tip of South America, on a tandem bike, picking up random strangers on the way. A gripping tale of two years and two continents, full of extraordinary characters and incidents.

Canada, 2009, Focus: Environment, family-friendly
Take an aerial plunge off the edge of an Arctic coastal headland into the abyss of a seabird colony to find out how marine environmental change is affecting the delicate balance of life for a hardy creature of the northern seas. A visual and metaphorical cliffhanger for our times!
Africa Revolutions Tour (20 minutes)
USA, 2009, Focus: White-water kayaking, Sun Catcher’s Project (NGO in Africa)
From the crocodile-infested White Nile in Uganda, to big-water first descents in Madagascar, the film follows this group of friends on their dangerous mission. Accompanying the team is Rita Riewerts, the founder of the Sun Catchers Project, a non-profit that installs solar cooking facilities in African orphanages, hospitals and communities. Join the team as they set out on an ambitious kayaking expedition in eastern Africa. Every cent this film generates will be donated to the Sun Catchers Project.
To the Rainbow (14 minutes)
UK, 2009, Focus: Rock climbing, human story
Paul Pritchard was on of Britain’s most talented and outrageous climbers in the late 1980s. a head injury received while climbing the totem Pole in Tasmania left Paul with hemiplegia. Now 13 years on, he makes an emotional return to climbing – on The Rainbow in North Wales. Teaming up with his old climbing partner, the legendary Johnny Dawes, he takes on a 5.10 route.
